In Cab Distraction Policy

IN-CAB DISTRACTION POLICY

Employees travelling in a company-owned or Owner/Operator plated vehicle are prohibited from using all communication devices such as, but not limited to:

  • cell phones
  • satellite systems
  • computers

without a hands-free device while driving, regardless of whether the business being conducted is personal or company related.

This prohibition includes:

  • placing or receiving calls
  • text messaging
  • surfing the net
  • receiving or responding to e-mail
  • checking for phone messages
  • or any other purpose not named yet involving company or personal activities while driving

SAFETY GUIDELINES

  • AVOID TEMPTATION: Keep your phone and/or computer out of reach while driving;
  • Allow voicemail to handle your calls and return them when safe;
  • Pull off the road to a safe and complete stop before using communication devices;
  • Inform regular callers of the best time to reach you based on your daily schedule;
  • EXCEPTION for 9-1-1:
    • If placing or accepting an emergency call, keep the call short and use hands-free options;
    • When receiving an emergency call, ask the caller to hold while you pull your vehicle safely off the road.
