Driver Trainee

​Driver trainees earn $150 per day while training in a truck with their mentor.

Upon completion of the in-truck training, drivers earn a per mile pay as per KBD's graduated driver pay scale below:

Group Benefits

Employees are entitled to group benefit coverage immediately upon hire; 80% reimbursement for drugs, extended health, and dental care and 100% coverage for out-of-country, chronic, ambulance and in-hospital care.

KBD contributes 25% toward the upfront group benefit cost during an employees' first 5 years.  Upon reaching 5 years of service, KBD covers the entire group benefit cost, meaning that employees incur no upfront costs.  Upon reaching 10 years of service, KBD increases an employees' drug, extended health, and dental care from 80 to 100% coverage.  

Employee benefits continue until retirement- there is no maximum age, although it should be noted that after age 65, life and accidental death & dismemberment coverage will be reduced to 50%.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) identifies Life Insurance as a taxable benefit.  Therefore, KBD will deduct the full cost from employees and Owner/Operators to ensure that, if collected, the $10,000 payout is tax free.

education bursary

KBD has awarded $51,500 in education bursaries to employees' children, grandchildren, and summer students since 2006.  To qualify, a parent or grandparent must be actively employed by KBD for one year prior, or in the case of a summer student, for one season prior.
